Knighton Town Crier Festival

A traditional cry has been heard loud and clear from the Town for the past six years as crowds gather for an unusual competition aiming to find the nation's best Town Crier.

The criers travel the length and breadth of Britain for the chance to take part and be crowned the winner Up to twenty Town Criers in full costume gathered at Knighton Church Hall on Saturday 22nd August 2009 for the annual 'Welsh Border Open' competition. They proceeded down Broad Street led by Knighton's host Town Crier and Knighton Town Silver Band. This year, after the first heat telling everyone about where they came from, they cried about 'The Red Kite', the emblem for Powys.

During the day the Criers took time out to board an old London green bus and visit people living at Knighton's two town's residential homes for the elderly.

Knighton Town Crier Festival 2010 will be held on Saturday 21st August.
